Home fitness without bothering anyone

What fits your flat and the neighbours don't hear

We compare walking pads, compact ellipticals and adjustable dumbbells on the two things that decide a home purchase: the space they take (in use and put away) and the noise they send through the floor.

15 machines · 13 brands · data reviewed Oct 31, 2026

Space

Size in use and folded in centimetres, the height to slide it under a sofa or bed, and how much higher your desk must go if you walk while you work. Every machine has a to-scale drawing of its footprint.

Noise

What bothers the flat below is footsteps travelling through the floor slab, not motor hum. So we look at shock absorbers, weight, motor and speed, and tell you which mat really covers each machine.

Choose by your situation

Each page applies published rules to the data of every machine and tells you which ones fit and why.

How we work

Sizes, weights and cushioning come from the makers; when they do not publish a figure, we say so instead of inventing it. Verdicts follow published rules; scores and texts are opinion and marked as such.
