Walking pads that fit under a bed or sofa

Out of sight when you are not using it: the height when put away decides whether it slides under the sofa, the bed or nothing.

4 great fits and 1 good ones, out of 7 models.

If the pad is going to live in the living room, the question is not how much space it takes while you walk but where it hides afterwards. There are three places and each asks for one measurement.

Under the sofa. Sofas on legs usually leave a 12–16 cm gap. A 10–11 cm flat pad slides in; a 14 cm one, sometimes; a 16 cm folded one, no.

Under the bed. A bed on legs leaves 20–30 cm (not a storage bed). Almost every flat pad fits, and the ones that fold in half leave room either side.

Upright against a wall. Some can be stored standing up (the maker says so explicitly; if not, do not: the lubricant and belt are not made for it). They take a hand's width of floor, but you see them.

Measure the gap with a torch: bed slats and skirting boards eat centimetres. And think about weight: over 30 kg, pulling it out every morning ends with it staying out.

Frequently asked questions

How high is the gap under a sofa?

On sofas with legs, between 12 and 16 cm. Measure in the middle: the frame rails are often lower than the edge.

Can you store a walking pad upright?

Only if the maker allows it. Those that do say so; on the others the belt can deform or the lubricant run.

Is a pad that folds in half worth it?

If the gap is short (a two-seat sofa, a single bed), yes: they go from 140 to 80 cm long. Folded, they are a little higher.
